Grantmaking

Our Approach

Our framework is rooted in gender, racial, and economic justice, based on trust, and guided by community. We practice participatory grantmaking—guidance for grantmaking comes directly from the communities to be supported and is informed by our grants advisory committee. We build long-term relationships with our grantee partners to foster organizational sustainability and empower lasting change. At its core, our trust-based philanthropy cedes decision-making power about grants to the very communities impacted by funding decisions.

Our Values

  1. Racial justice is crucial to securing gender and economic justice.
  2. Long-term investment in grantee partners facilitates leadership and organizational sustainability.
  3. Effective and sustainable solutions come from within communities.
  4. Women (cis and trans) and gender-expansive people are authors of their own lives and change makers in their communities.
  5. Grantees are partners and knowledgeable experts, and it is our role to listen to them.
  6. We carry out philanthropy by following people at the margins to support transformative change.
  7. Grantmakers should facilitate power-sharing, not hierarchy.
  8. Participatory approaches create opportunities for local solutions.
