Organizing Domestic Workers

Organizing Domestic Workers

In 2006, Ai-jen Poo, approached The Foundation with a plan to organize care workers across the U.S. to improve labor standards. While she faced funding challenges elsewhere, The Foundation funded the National Domestic Workers Alliance with $30,000. With help from that early support, the organization has grown to a nation-wide movement with more than 70 local affiliates and 250,000 members online.

Investing in Girls & Young Women of Color

Investing in Girls & Young Women of Color

Launched in 2015, The NYC Fund for Girls & Young Women of Color (GYWOC) has invested in hundreds of organizations, engaged hundreds of thousands of community members, and built lasting change through policy advocacy and grassroots organizing. GYWOC grantee partners have developed the leadership of thousands of girls and gender-expansive youth of color to create strong and growing movements.

Achieving Equal Pay

Achieving Equal Pay

The New York Women’s Foundation supported PowHer New York during their developmental stage, and in 2015 they achieved 501(c)(3) status. Through their advocacy, PowHer has helped secure significant policy wins—in 2021, the New York City Council passed a bill requiring all employers to list minimum and maximum salaries on job postings, a key step forward for pay equity and economic justice.
